Please spend time enjoying some more science this weekend! Maybe you would like to watch a few videos with your family and friends-- https://www.twigsciencereporter.com/

This week has been science week and we have had a blast! On Monday we had aeronautic specialists explain how planes fly. As a school we then launched an investigation ‘Does the shape or size of aeroplanes wings affect the distance it can fly?’. We then made our own planes, changing only the shape of the wings and launched them to test how far each of our planes travelled. Ask us about our results! We also had an amazing talk from Mr Carter about unusual British wildlife and loved creating our own unique plant and animal, considering what it needed to survive and what its habitat would be. Did you know that basking sharks only travel 2mph and got their name from the fact they look like they are sunbathing near the top of the water? Magpies also extended their creativity in our BioArtAttack challenge where they drew their favourite animal and applied all their knowledge and art techniques learnt this year. We linked our science to English this week, where we researched our favourite animal, focusing on its appearance, diet, habitat and behaviours to support our writing of ‘A Day in the Life of a …’ which have been fascinating to read… some of these animals have quite the adventure some days! Here are a few more highlights from the week…

Grayson- ‘I have enjoyed making the aeroplanes and testing them out. Our team added double layers of cardboard to make the wings thicker and stronger.’

Joseph- ‘I loved researching about a great white shark. Did you know they live in near-shore habitats but at different ages and times of the year their habitats can change slightly to further out at sea where it is cooler?’

Mila- ‘Drawing our favourite animals was fun because I love art and adding textures and techniques. My favourite animal is a koala!’

Ava P- ‘I really enjoyed when we drew our animal and researched. I loved adding shading to my ocapi’

Have a great weekend!
