In Science, we sought out sounds and their sources outside on the field to help us understand how being close to the source impacts the volume of a sound.

In English, we have delved further into our reading book and discovered that Ahmet is a refugee and how the Narrator has been trying everything possible to become friends with Ahmet.

In Maths, we have consolidated long multiplications (236 x 7) and starting the 'bus stop' method to division ( 369 divide by 3).

Hope you all have a great weekend

Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year to you all.

We have completed our narratives about the Wishgranter and the children have excelled in their writing by using fronted adverbial and challenging vocabulary in their work.

In Maths, we consolidated our mathematical vocabulary;  please ask us the meaning of sum, difference, product and quotient.

In History this week, we have discussed how artefacts help us to understand ancient civilisations.  We have investigated the lives of Ancient Sumer, Ancient Indus Valley and the Shang Dynasty.

We hope you all have a restful holiday break.

Reading - one more week to meet AR targets.

We have had an imaginative week drafting our version of fantasy story.  Already, we have challenged ourselves to use imaginative vocabulary and English features.  Next week, we will be editing our drafts and then publishing these stories in a class book.

In Maths, we have been practising how to generate a calculation from a word problem.  We have looked in detail which operations to use and how to find the quickest method to answer a question.

During today's Festival of Light, we created our own krathong, a 'floating basket', that is used in Buddhism to celebrate and thank the river gods. Our homemade krathong was made by the whole class and includes own wishes for the world.  We also made lanterns that are floated up to the sky during this festival.

      National multiplication test

In June, all children in year 4 will seat a statutory multiplication tables check (MTC) in England.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently up to 12, through a set of 25 timed questions. This skill is essential for future success in mathematics, and the check will help schools identify pupils who have not yet mastered this and provide additional support.

To help your child to become familiar with the online test - here is a link to a site that replicates the test where the question only appears for 6 seconds.

      Multiplication Tables Check - 2025 - Timestables.co.uk

Group spellings - brought, bought, plough, through, though, tough, thought, fought, cough

In Year 4, we would like to say thank you for our costumes, props and helping us learn our complicated, long and difficult script.  We hope you enjoy the performance as we love performing for you.

In English, we have written a balanced argument to the question - Is Chaya a hero.  There have been lots of discussion around the events in the story so far.

In Science, we have started writing our investigation and will have to wait 9 days before we can gather the results to our Eggsperiment.
