In Art, we have enjoyed learning about Kandinsky, who is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. The children looked at a swirling pattern painted by Kandinsky to inspire them and then used pastels to create a piece that captured something that meant something to them. Some chose their pets and others chose animals from nature. The children even included a detailed background in their pictures.

In English, we completed some shared reading of The Pebble in my Pocket. After reviewing similes and different grammar rules, we planned and then wrote our own quality sentences. These were written about the volcanoes that existed 430 million years ago. The children wrote with flair and formulated some extended sentences that made us feel like we had travelled in time.

In rugby, we have introduced basic rules and safety, demonstrated how to start a game with a free pass (passing backwards) and practised free pass setups in pairs and small groups. We look forward to a visit from Sarah Bailey, who works for England Rugby, and she will be talking about working in sports medicine.

Have a great weekend!
