Friday 7th November
Home Learning
Reading:
Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week.
Handwriting:
Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size and spacing.
Maths:
Please practise on Doodle Maths – ten minutes daily will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.
Spellings:
We will be sending home a list of words for your child to practise at home each Tuesday.
Don’t forget to practise this week’s spelling rules over the weekend ready for our quiz on Monday morning!
This week!
We have introduced our new Global Learning Goal - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. We talked about what the United Nations are aiming to achieve through this goal, and talked about 'rules'. We talked about what rules are, places that we have to follow rules and began thinking about who enforces the rules. We had a very interesting discussion about what life would look like if there were no rules, and what life would look like if everyone followed the rules. The children had some really throught provoking ideas and we are excited to see where our learning takes us!
In English we have introduced the character 'Girl' in our new Power of Reading book. We talked about what we know based on a single picture, and we asked lots of questions to the other characters that we introduced later on in the week.
In Maths, we have been looking at 'difference', what it means, and how we can use different strategies to calculate it. We looked at using subtraction, as well as counting on using a numberline to support us in our learning.
In Science, we have begun to think about what 'exercise is' and went outside this afternoon to practise some different types of exercise. We will be thinking about the impact of exercise on our bodies, what happens when we exercise and the short and long term effects of exercise.
It was lovely to meet you all at parents evening this week to discuss your children, how they have settled and their progress so far. If you have any questions, queries or concerns please dont hesitate to catch us at the door or email us at year2@bpa.act-academytrust.org.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,
The Year 2 Team
