Reading:

Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader or in your child’s reading diary. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week at home. If you would like a paper reading diary to record your reading at home, please let us know and we can provide one for you.

Handwriting:

Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size.

Please practise on Doodle Maths – fifteen minutes every day will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.

Spellings:

We will be sending home a list of words for your child to practise at home each Tuesday. Don’t forget to practise this week’s spelling rule, adding a consonant before an ending to words with one syllable, ending in a vowel and a consonant. i.e. pat – patted, swim – swimming.

This week!

Ruby enjoyed thinking about how to look after a pet in our Science learning this week.

Phoebe has enjoyed our introduction to our new CLPE book, Rapunzel. We loved looking at the characters and the Witch’s bright, colourful underwear!

Nigel and Sophie’s three minute talks were very interesting this week, we’ve learned lots of facts about Cheetahs and we now know how much Nigel loves Lego!

Sonny and Dougie loved Computing this week where we looked at sequences of events and how we need a starting block to begin a new sequence of instructions. We loved learning about Scratch Jr!

Hugo loved our Rugby lesson on Monday where we learned how to throw and catch a rugby ball. We enjoyed playing a game of pass the ball as a round robin!

This week!

Sunny and Hugo enjoyed our RE lesson this week where we learned all about what Muslims do to celebrate Eid.

Charlie and Harry have enjoyed Maths this week where we have been learning the different ways to solve division calculations, including grouping, skip counting and even sharing. We know that we need to look out for key vocabulary in the word problems we encounter, such as ‘share equally’ or ‘groups of’.

We’ve enjoyed lots of three-minute talks this week, including Ruby, Dougie and Grace’s – we learned about fossils, pandas and hockey!

Sophie and Sonny enjoyed Art and DT this week, where we made sliders – a mechanism that makes a movement. Sliders move from side to side, up and down. We are excited to practise making our own lever mechanism next week before designing and making our own information page incorporating both a lever and a slider mechanism.

Phoebe has enjoyed our English learning this week, where we have been looking at newspaper reports and identifying their features. Next week we will be writing our own newspaper reports about the Lonely Beast!

This week!

Sophie, Sonny and Ruby have enjoyed our English learning this week, where we planned, prepared and wrote a diary entry about our journey under the sea. We made sure to include key events, our emotions at the time and we even challenged ourselves to use ‘because’ to explain why we were feeling that way. All of the children gave their independent writing a really good go and we are so proud of their finished diary entries!

George, Hugo, Harry and lots of other children have enjoyed learning about shapes this week! We have drawn around a range of 2D shapes, learned their names and how to spell them, as well as looked at their properties. We now know how many sides and vertices that lots of different 2D shapes have.

Phoebe has enjoyed Geography this week where we have learned about the different sources of water on our planet, including those that are made naturally such as a pond, rivers and streams and rainwater, as well as those made by humans, which include wells, dams and tubewells!

Jonah and lots of other children enjoyed Charlie’s 3 minute talk this week, where he brought a sturgeon into class and could share lots of facts all about it!

This week!

Dougie and Amelia have enjoyed learning about the character in our new class reading book, ‘The Beast’. We have thought about what we know, what we think we know and we have used our ideas to write a character description about the Beast.

Sophie, Hugo and lots of others have enjoyed Science this week, where we learned all about germs (both bad and good!), how quickly and easily they can spread, and how we can stop them!

Grace and Abel have enjoyed Global Learning this week, where we have been introduced to our new Goal – Clean Water and Sanitation. We thought about why it is important to have clean water, and the impact of drinking dirty water.

Phoebe enjoyed Computing this week, where we learned all about the buttons on a keyboard – we focused on the home row keys, and practised typing using both hands by playing a game on Purple Mash! If you would like to practise this at home, you can log onto your Purple Mash account and click on the ‘2 Type’ application.

Ollie, Charlie and Monty have enjoyed Maths this week, where we have been learning about doubling 2-digit numbers. On Friday we had a sneak peek of a practice Arithmetic SAT paper, and we loved using our whiteboards to show our methods when solving the different types of questions.

Don’t forget to practise this week’s spelling rule over the weekend ready for our quiz – we will be doing it later on in the week to give the children a chance to practise them properly as we have had a few off this week!

This week!

Ruby and lots of others have enjoyed having the iPads out in our Computing lesson this week, putting our knowledge and skills of algorithms and instructions into practice by controlling Bee-bots and instructing them to get to different objects.

Martha has enjoyed reading this week. Seb enjoyed visiting St Neots Library as part of our trip on Tuesday and learned all about how we can visit the Library for free, borrow up to 12 books at a time for up to 3 weeks – the children got to read a selection of different books and stories, and the children were inspired to get their own books – Sonny has enjoyed reading his own comic!

Phoebe enjoyed our trip to St Neots Museum this week, where we have been learning about the Police – we learned about where the criminals and the prisoners would sleep, we learned that their beds were made out of wood and we also learned that lots of criminals in the Victorian times were actually children and teenagers. We noticed that they were possibly poor or in poverty, and that they needed to go out and steal food, money and toys in order to eat and play.

Jonah has enjoyed Maths this week – we have continued to practice adding and subtracting two digit numbers and 1 digit numbers when we need to bridge through 10 – the children persevered brilliantly and were all successful!

Yesterday we had a very exciting Facetime with the man himself – Father Christmas told us that we have worked really hard this term and have made it to the Nice List! Apparently, one of the teachers is on the naughty list – we can’t work out who it is!!!

This week!

Amelia has enjoyed Maths this week where we have been practising using a place value grid to add one-digit numbers to two-digit number, and we have been super resilient when learning how to exchange ten ones for a ten in order to bridge through to the next decade!

Bertie and George have enjoyed improving thei handwriting this week, where we have been continuing to practise the cursive script needed to join our letters.

Ollie has enjoyed Science this week where we have been thinking about our bodies when we exercise.

Phoebe has enjoyed Reading this week where we have been learning about Nick Park – he links really nicely with our Art work where we will be using clay to make our Police Badges. Did you know, Nick Park was the creator of our very own Wallace and Gromit Series, as well as Chicken Run!

Jonah enjoyed our Reading Comprehension where we learned about the Police, including what they need, the support they get and what you need to do to be a Police Officer when you are older!

Seb has enjoyed PE where we have continued to practise our throwing and catching.

We are very proud of how our children have practised and participated in our Year 4 and Year 2 Production of The Wind in the Willows – we hope that you enjoyed the show, the children were fantastic!
