This week’s talk homework is to retell a traditional tale – this week we have looked at Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Can you think of any others? Can you retell them to your adults at home? You could even draw a story map!

Good Afternoon!

Well, what a super start to Autumn 2! We’ve been really busy this week and have gotten really stuck into our learning!

This week in English we have resumed our learning on our Power of Reading text, we finally know what it is called - 'The Last Wolf'. We discovered that the character in the story is in fact Little Red Riding Hood (lots of our predictions were correct) and that she is off to catch a Wolf - she's the predator rather than the prey this time! We’ve looked pictures in the story and the thoughts and feelings of Little Red and her Mother, discussed what might happen next, predicted who might be living in the tree behind the wooden door, and have compared the story to other traditional tales that we know! We’ve done lots of drama this week too, including retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the children then worked together to act out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears - Jax and Kyan made awesome Narrators, and Ellie-Louise and Carys wowed us with their amazing one-person acting by playing four characters at the same time!

In Maths this week, we have been adding and subtracting ones to and from other numbers using a number line and a place value grid. We’ve looked at patterns when finding ten more and ten less using a hundred square – did you know that if you move left or right you find one more/less and if you move up and down a row you find ten more/less!

We have started our new Goal in Global Learning which is Peace, Justice and Strong Institution! We’ve discussed what a school would look like if there were no rules, we’ve thought about the different types of rules that we have to follow, and found out a little bit about the word ‘Law’. The children knew that the Government make lots of the Laws and that the Laws are designed to keep us safe.

In French we have been recapping the months of the year and the children have begun to work out what their birth month is. We will soon be looking at how to say when their birthday is!

In P.E. this week we played some team games with Miss Freeman (the weather was far too wet and cold for slippery footballs) and played Rugby with Lizell, learning new skills such as passing and running with the ball!

We finished off the week with ‘Big Maths Beat That’ where the children tried to beat their previous score, and with some super show and tells to the whole class!

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe,
Miss Freeman and Thunberg Class
