Friday 12th June

Home Learning

Reading:

Please read daily with your child and log on Boom Reader or in your child’s reading diary. We will be following up with children who are reading less than three times a week at home. If you would like a paper reading diary to record your reading at home, please let us know and we can provide one for you.

Handwriting:

Any opportunity to practise writing your letters using our cursive script at home would greatly help with developing and improving your child’s handwriting. We are focusing on ensuring our small letters are small, our tall letters are tall (and long) and that they are consistent in size.

Maths:

Please practise on Doodle Maths – fifteen minutes every day will help your child stay in the Green Zone! We will set an assignment for your child to do each Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.

If you would like to practise other areas of Maths over the holidays, any addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (2, 5 and 10x tables) would benefit your child greatly.

Spellings:

Please continue to practise your spellings over the weekend. You will have your test on Monday morning and receive your new spellings on Tuesday to take home and practise.

This week!

All of the Year 2 team had a fantastic time at our trip to Woburn Safari Park yesterday. Despite the weather being cold and wet, the children still managed to have an amazing time!

We saw all sorts of different animals (the ones who weren’t hiding away from the rain), such as sea lions, giant tortoises, ring-tailed lemurs, wallabies, meerkats, otters and lots of different reptiles!

We loved the Educational Workshop where we learned all about different animals, how they have been preserved, and we begun to think about what ‘poaching’ means and why people choose to do it. We learned that animals can be vulnerable, and even endangered, and we learned about the importance of trying to raise awareness of this to try and protect these animals.

The road safari was a highlight of the day, where we had a guided tour of the Safari park and learned lots of interesting facts about the different animals we saw on our way round. Did you know, a group of rhinos is called a crash? We also learned that a group of giraffes is called a tower, and a group of bears is called a sleuth! Miss Freeman and Miss Barker’s favourite group was the zebras, because they’re called a dazzle!

The children were so well-behaved, were incredibly resilient despite the torrential downpours throughout most of the day, and we loved every minute of it. We hope they enjoyed it as much as we did!

Have a lovely weekend.
