This week we have been learning about weight and capacity in our maths lessons. The children have used the stem sentences- ____ is heavier than ____ . _____ is lighter than _____. Then we have used containers to compare which has the greatest capacity, pouring lentils from smaller vessels to larger. We also used the vocabulary; full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty, half full and half empty.

We have also continued with our work on compostion of 5 by hiding some items in a bag and having some visible and trying to say the addition and subtraction number sentences related to what we see. Rosa has been pleased that she is now becoming more confident with this.

In English, we have started reading the story 'Home for Grace'. It is a sad story about a homeless refugee. We talked about our rights as children to have a home and how sad it was that not everyone has a home. This then led us to write 5 word sentences about the weather as we could tell Grace was cold in the story. Our writing is really improving and all our teachers have been very proud of this. Heidi liked then making a paper butterfly which was an item Grace cherished.

Arthur has loved our Science this week, which has been to build homes for the three little pigs using straw, sticks and bricks then using the Big Bad Wolf hairdrier to see which one will be puffed down.
