This week, Mr Hallam spoke to Year 3 about careers in CAD Surveying. One of his pieces of equipment takes a measurement every 3mm, measuring 360 degrees. The GPS his company uses is accurate to 5mm on the surface of the earth and is another way of drawing maps using satellites. He said that in order to become a surveyor you specialise in maths or geography at school.  His work took him to the Gherkin - 30 St Mary's Axe in London where he had to measure the stairs to determine whether they could fit new glass up a staircase to a window that needed replacing.

We also had a talk about bees and honey. There are 3 types of bees: drones, worker bees and the queen bee, who lays eggs. Swarming occurs when half the bees leave to find a new hive. The owners collected 72kg of honey from 3 hives that contained 25-50,000 bees. If you ever see a bee swarm in the local area, you should always report it to the Huntingdon Beekeeper’s Association https://huntsbka.org.uk/.

We enjoyed a debate and decision line on whether we thought Lob existed. In our new book Lob, both grandpa and Lucy saw Lob, but the other family members disagree on whether he is real. We will find out more over the coming weeks!

Have a great weekend!

The Year 3 Team.
