Maths - Doodle Maths and Times Tables - 10 minutes daily

Reading - one more week to meet AR targets.

We have had an imaginative week drafting our version of fantasy story.  Already, we have challenged ourselves to use imaginative vocabulary and English features.  Next week, we will be editing our drafts and then publishing these stories in a class book.

In Maths, we have been practising how to generate a calculation from a word problem.  We have looked in detail which operations to use and how to find the quickest method to answer a question.

During today's Festival of Light, we created our own krathong, a 'floating basket', that is used in Buddhism to celebrate and thank the river gods. Our homemade krathong was made by the whole class and includes own wishes for the world.  We also made lanterns that are floated up to the sky during this festival.

    National multiplication test

In June, all children in year 4 will seat a statutory multiplication tables check (MTC) in England.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently up to 12, through a set of 25 timed questions. This skill is essential for future success in mathematics, and the check will help schools identify pupils who have not yet mastered this and provide additional support.

To help your child to become familiar with the online test - here is a link to a site that replicates the test where the question only appears for 6 seconds.

    Cut the Carbon!

This November, we’re on a mission to shrink our carbon footprints and make a real impact. Each week, our Eco-Warriors will be tracking progress and cheering you on.  There are six suggestions to help us cut carbon:

    • Eat a plant-based meal
    • Leave the car at home and walk or cycle instead
    • Meal plan to reduce food waste
    • Lower your washing machine temperature to 30°C or lower
    • Have a device-free day
    • Turn down the heating by 1° for a week

    Bin-tastic Challenge!

Our playground bins are ready for a makeover—and we want YOUR brilliant ideas! The Eco Team is calling on all creative minds to design a brand-new bin that’s fun, functional, and fabulous.

🎨 Your Mission:  Grab an A4 sheet of paper and sketch your dream bin design. Think bold colours, cool shapes, and eco-friendly features. Could it talk? Could it sort recycling? Could it look like a robot or a tree?

🌱 The Eco Team will review all the designs and choose the most awesome one to inspire our new playground bins!  Deadline Friday 7th November.

This week we have been practising our play!

We went outside today and got rather wet and muddy while practising our throwing and marking in netball.

We have been working on our 500-word stories in English this week. We will be writing them up neatly next week so we can send a copy home. This way, you can help us submit them to the competition.

In maths, we've been working on our column subtraction. We have been practising regrouping and understanding word problems.

During geography, we've been learning about deforestation, why trees are needed, why it happens, and what we can do to prevent it or improve it.
